For Elements users who would like more of the functionality of Photoshop, there are a couple
of plug-ins which are very useful. First, a proper Curves tool can be added using SmartCurve
and layer masks can be added with the free Hidden Power Tools for Elements, together with
a range of other tools.

If you've recently bought a new camera and find that your version of Photoshop doesn't open
the RAW files, try the free RawTherapee converter, for Windows and Linux.
Alternatively, Adobe's DNG Converter will convert the RAW file into Adobe's Digital Negative format,
which will then open in Photoshop. Click here for Windows, and here for Macintosh.
A useful free program called ExposurePlot can be found here, which analyzes the images in a
folder and provides histograms of shutter speeds, apertures, focal lengths and ISO speeds.
